2 grass fires break out on the Bear Creek Greenway

Medford, Ore. — 2 fires broke out on the Bear Creek Greenway in Medford, Sunday evening just after 7 o’clock.

Both fires consumed about a quarter of an acre. One burned behind the Rogue Valley Mall, the other was behind Medford’s railroad park.

To prevent future fires crews let one of those fires back burn.

“We went ahead and sent engines to both of them and got them handled fairly quickly. We got one of our brush rigs, they’re gonna investigate both fires tonight and then they’re gonna come back out and check them again,” saidCaptainKevin Watt, of Medford Fire.

Crews from Medford fire, the Oregon Department of Forestry, and Jackson County Fire District 3 helped put the blazes out.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause.

The bike path is once again reopened.
