2015 legislative session begins Monday

SALEM, ORE. –State leaders will meet in Salem Monday for the start of the 2015 legislative session.

State Senator Alan Bates says this session will largely be driven by marijuana legislation.

Oregonians voted in November to legalize recreational marijuana, that will take effect July 1.

But Bates says one of the most controversial topics legislators will tackle is minimum wage.

“Finding that sweet spot the spot where you can really help people get out of poverty, get off social programs, and not hurt the economy is going to be tricky,” Sen. Bates said.

Bates says education will also be a big issue.

He says he’ll work to push for a bill that pays for the first two years of community college.
