Ashland approves new $4.3m water pipeline

Ashland, Ore. — It will cost more than double than expected, so is a waterline connecting Ashland to Talent and Phoenix worth it

That’s what the the Ashland City Council discussed Tuesday night.

The original cost of $2.3-million has now been raised to a $4.3-million estimate.

The council voted in favor of the pipeline Tuesday night, even with the rise in cost.

In Tuesday night’s decision, the council authorized a reallocation of $2.4-million and authorized a state loan to cover the other $2.97-million.

The city’s public works director says the pipeline will not raise water rates beyond the already scheduled ten percent increase kicking in later this year.

Pipeline construction is set to be finished by mid-August.
