Ashland Businesses Support Plastic Bag Ban Despite Higher Costs

Apublic study session is being held in Ashland Monday,to discuss the possibility of banning plastic bags throughout the city.

The idea of a bag ban isn’t something new for the city.

It’s a slow day in the world of ashland retail.

Holly Hight works at Rogue Valley Runners.The store currently only offers plastic bags but they do support a ban. Meaning that if a ban was passed, they would have to switch from plastic to paper or reusable tote.

Making the switch can be a big financial cost for small businesses but it’s something that Paddington Station decided to do nearly a decade ago.

But as a business owner, Pam Hammond finds that she needs to be responsible for what her business is putting out into the world.

If a ban were to take place, Ashland would be the first in southern Oregon. Portland, Eugene and Corvallis already have similar measures and it’s something some advocates say we can do as well.
