Ashland’s Monster Dash and Halloween parade draws pirates, pumpkins and princesses

Ashland, Ore. — From witches to pirates, pumpkins to unicorns all sorts of characters came out for today’s Monster Dash in Ashland.

Around one-thousand racers participated today, running either a mile, a 5k, or a 10k.

The run began and ended in Lithia park, with medals for all the kids that finish. For the adults, cash prizes are awarded to the first man and woman across the finish line.

Organizers say what sets it apart is the day it’s held on.

“The costumes make everything. The costumes are just so creative and so original and you just kind of laugh every time you look around and see something crazy,” said race director Jeanne Walcher.

This is the seventh year of the Monster Dash. It benefits the Ashland Schools Foundation and organizers say the money goes directly to the classrooms, teachers and students.

The fun didn’t stop there though, at 2:30 thousands of people filled Siskiyou boulevard for the annual Halloween parade.

The road was closed down as fairies, clowns and Star Wars characters made their way from the library down to the plaza.

This tradition has been a part of Ashland for around 20 years and is put on by the Ashland Chamber of Commerce.

It’s easily the largest Halloween event in the Rogue Valley.
