Brim Aviation could face fine from FAA

Ashland, Ore — The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating an Ashland based company after they allegedly conducted unauthorized exercises. A charge that could cost the company hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The company Brim Aviation Is based out of Ashland, Oregon and they perform a wide range of jobs including power line repair and search and rescue missions with helicopters.

Now the FAA says they weren’t performing safely on one particular operation, and that could cost them a proposed 220 thousand dollars. According to the FAA, Brim Aviation performed at least 20 unauthorized and unsafe flights. Some of them involving people working outside the helicopter. An attorney for brim aviation says until they see the specific details of the case, the charges are unfounded.

“That’s our concern, we don’t want to speculate as far as chasing ourselves, wondering if what we’re finding in our records is what the F-A-A is concerned about, said Attorney Greg Winton.

Winton said he also questions the timing of the investigation as the incident happened back in June of 2013 during what seemed to be a routine operation.

Brim Aviation is looking to meet with the FAA before the case, as the fine is so far, just a recommendation.
