Butterfly Launch

Today more than 100 butterflies flew to freedom in the Applegate.

3rd and 4th graders began raising the butterflies on their own time back in October, when they were just caterpillars.

Students say they’re excited the butterflies are in the wild. “I was really happy because now they’re free and now they get to start a new generation” says Macy Kliewer. “It was really cool cause they were all different colors and you could see them landing on plants and other people” said Justice Hartford.

The butterflies are called painted ladies. They were also released to mark the re-opening of one of the school buildings.
