Prosecutors are charging U.S. Marine veteran Itzcoatl Ocampo with four counts of murder of homeless men in California. Meanwhile a makeshift memorial has been set up in Anaheim for those killed. Police say the suspect was arrested Friday night after he allegedly killed the fourth transient. The killings led California police to go on nightly patrols – urging homeless people to sleep in groups or seek shelter.
Orange County District Attorney, Tony Rackauckas said “If 23-year-old Itzcoatl Ocampo is convicted, he faces a minimum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. These charges also mean that Ocampo is eligible for the death penalty.” The D.A. says he’s not prepared to discuss a possible motive but Ocampo’s father, himself homeless, said war changed his son, and when he returned he would talk about the end of the world.
