CDC report: Heroin use and addiction increasing in U.S.

Medford, Ore. — Police say the use of heroin has risen dramatically over the past five years and a report released by the Centers for Disease Control on Tuesday confirms the trend.

The CDC’s report found women, as well as people with private insurance, or a higher income, were more likely to use heroin.

In Medford, police say it’s something they’ve been dealing with more and more, “especially the past five years, six years, heroin’s, uh, we’re probably finding as much heroin as we are meth, if not more heroin,” said SGT. Tom Ianieri.

The report also found heroin-involved overdoses and deaths nearly doubled between 2011 and 2013.

In 2013 alone, more than 8,000 people died in the United States of heroin-involved overdoses.
