Crews clean up downed trees and branches

Medford, Ore. — Rain coupled with what’s being called a “microburst” of wind caused a bit of chaos in East Medford on Wednesday morning.

Christmas Eve was not exactly a walk in the park for some City of Medford Public Works crews as they cleaned up the mess left behind from wind and rain.

“We did have what seems to be a microburst of wind in the area of Highland and Keene Way,” said Cory Crebbin, Director of Public Works for the City of Medford.

“I heard a loud crash and it kind of sounded like a big bucket of water falling down,” said Rebecca Flora.

The power went out for some residents in the area. Pacific Power said nearly 500 Medford customers were without electricity until around 1:30 Wednesday afternoon.

“Just going to wait in the dark and see what happens,” said Flora.

As people waited for their lights to come back on, crews kept themselves busy in East Medford.

Cars at East Main and Eastwood Drive were forced to turn around because of branches on the road.

Then the next stop for Medford crews was Ardmore Avenue and Siskiyou Boulevard.

Then after that, it was onto Greenway Drive. That’s where one woman took the Christmas spirit into her own hands.

“I thought they needed some cookies and we’re making some coffee and they’ve apparently been dealing with lots of downed trees and flooding and what not and they’re working on Christmas Eve so we wanted to do something to show our appreciation,” said Medford resident Sue Martin.

The plate of goodies included cookies and cupcakes that the workers appreciated.

“It tastes great! She’s a good cook,” said one of the workers.

Despite having to work Christmas Eve, Martin’s tasty gesture making their day a little sweeter.
