Event empowers young girls

Grants Pass, Ore. — Girls from all over the Rogue Valley came together to spend the day celebrating girl power.

Nearly 200 girls between the ages of nine and 13 met at Grants Pass High School for the seventh annual “Girls Rock” event. The event was put on by the international women’s groups American Association of University Women, Soroptimist, and Zonta.

The girls attended several workshops with their parent including self defense, search and rescue, and a class on how to make and throw a boomerang.

The day was about putting away technology and reconnecting the kids with their parents.

The event will be back next year at Grants Pass High School on February 27th and is free.
