False report in “Stolen Wheelchair” case

Medford, Ore –Medford Police say their investigation into a report of a stolen “Action Track” wheelchair reveals the owner traded the wheelchair and filed a false report.

The wheelchair, valued at $20,000 was reported stolen on April 28th. Medford Police found the complainant, Keith Avant, reported that the wheelchair was taken along with a wheelchair lift, from the back of his vehicle in the driveway.

According to MPD Avant traded the wheelchair to an associate. After the trade, Avant reported the wheelchair as stolen to the police.

The wheelchair had previously been donated to Avant, due todisabilities he sustained when enlisted in the military.

There have been some donations sent to Mr. Avant via GoFundMewebsites. Medford Police will be working with Avant to ensure the fundsare returned to the appropriate persons and not utilized by him since theywere obtained through false pretenses.
