FBI raid targets identity thieves

Sacramento, Calif. — (KCRA) FBI agents who executed two search warrants — one in the Sacramento area and another in Southern California — have identified about 23,000 compromised American Express accounts, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court Thursday.

The complaint suggests Mihran Melkonyan and Rouslan Akhmerov conspired to defraud American Express by establishing a fraudulent business, obtaining victim AmEx credit card information, and using the illegally obtained credit card details to bill American Express

A neighbor of one of the defendants did not want to be identified, but was not surprised.

“We always wondered about how these people have all these nice cars and all these beautiful things,” the neighbor said. “And everybody lives in a duplex around here, and yet you’re driving a $60,000, $70,000, $80,000 car Seemed weird.”
