FedEx truck catches fire on the I-5

Siskiyou Pass, Ore. — A FedEx truck erupted in flames along I-5 Thursday morning, halting traffic and damaging the freeway.

Off camera the driver of this FedEx truck recounts what happened as his cab burst into flames while coming over the Siskiyou Pass.

The fire started around 5 am Thursday morning, the flames were still going hours later, not only causing damage to the vehicle and trailer, but to the road. The fire was so hot it even damaged the asphalt, burning right into the ground. Now ODOT says they’ll have to repair this.

Furthermore, Northbound lanes from mile marker 10 on the I-5 were blocked, causing a traffic jam that extended for miles, commuters waited for 3 and half hours.

Many are just grateful the truck driver miraculously escaped. People die doing this job every day. Its not an easy job, but still leaving casualties: a damaged freeway and hundreds of FedEx parcels consumed by flames.
