French Shooting Suspect Dead After 32-Hour Standoff

The suspect in the killing of seven people in and around the southern French city of Toulouse is dead after a police siege of his apartment, lasting more than 31 hours.

24-year-old Mohamed Merah, a French citizen from Algeria is a self-proclaimed member of Al Qaeda.

Hewas killed in the raid overnight.

Merah confessed to Monday’s killings of three children and a rabbi at a Jewish school and last week’s shooting deaths of three paratrooper.

He said he killed to avenge the deaths of Palestinian children and to protest the French army’s involvement in Afghanistan.
