South Ashland Bridge Demolition Causes Traffic Congestion

Traffic backed up in Ashland Wednesday night as crews work on the South Ashland bridge at exit 14.

Starting at 7pm tonight, demolition work on the deck of the Interstate 5 overpass began. ODOT crews are removing decaying concrete and rebar from a rotting bridge deck. The construction is meant to widen the bridge over I-5 to three lanes and add sidewalks, bike lanes and signals.

They’re working at night to decrease the impact on traffic, which is being diverted up and over the northbound ramps, including Ashland Street. Drivers should anticipate congestion.

Because of the bridge work, the freeway’s northbound lanes will be closed from 7 pm until 7 am until Friday.
