Future newlyweds won’t let Boles Fire ruin wedding plans

Weed, Ca — If you had only minutes to escape a fire, what would you take with you

For Roy Miller and Jaclynn Mitchell, it’s not what they lost, but the three items they saved that gives them hope for the future.

As they sift through the ashes of what was their home Miller and his fiance are lucky to be alive.

When you walk up and everything’s gone and the metal in your house is just twisted into piles of nothing, there’s no words for it, you kind of go numb for a while,” said Mitchell.

Days after the Boles Fire tore through their neighborhood. They have few belongings left. Just a few porcelain trinkets given to Mitchell by her grandmother.

“At that time of panic your brain just goes out the window, you just can’t think, what do you grab,” said Miller.

They did think to grab three very special things. Two rings and a wedding dress.

All they need for the most important day of their lives. Their wedding, just days away.

Mitchell and Miller say the thought of canceling never crossed their minds.

“To say no, we’re going through with it, it just shows there’s more than just things you own, we’re there for each other and that’s what matters the most,” said Mitchell.

For them, what matters most isn’t in the ashes of the past, but in the promise of their future, together.

You stop to realize, that’s all material and it can be replaced, and what really matters is family and friend that come together in a time of need,” said Miller.

The future newlyweds say they are getting married this weekend at TBS ranch in Pala Cedro, California and due to an outpouring of support from the community, the wedding will go on as planned.
