Grants Pass ranks high in car theft cases

Grants Pass, Ore. — New statistics released by the FBI show auto thefts are up and Grants Pass is one of the worst cities for the crime in the country.

The FBI says Grants Pass metro has the 21st highest rate of vehicle theft in the U.S.

Grants Pass police say they have seen a 29-percent increase between 2010 and 2013.

“It could be a number of reasons. It could be the lack of jail space or holding the criminal responsible, especially the ones we capture in the city will see a jail cell,” said Lieutenant Todd Moran of the Grants Pass Police Department.

Troopers also say although a vehicle maybe stolen from a different city or state.

If it’s found in Grants Pass, that counts as a strike against the city.
