Eagle Point, Ore. — Heavy rains brought some much needed moisture to Southern Oregon and Northern California this weekend, but also caused flooding in some areas. Eagle Point resident Ernie Larum watched as the creek behind his house rose nearly as high as his patio.
“You’re always nervous when you live by this creek,” said Larum.
Larum has lived on Little Butte Creek for 11 years. With heavy rains always affecting the creek, Larum said he’s always aware of water levels.
“The creek rises scarily fast and falls scarily fast,” he said.
Fortunately, the flooding wasn’t anywhere near the worst the town has seen. Randy Sell has owned Valley Feed and Pet Supply on Royal Ave. for 30 years. He said the flooding this weekend was nothing compared to what else the town has seen.
“I call it a creek cleaner. It just knocks out all the small stuff and debris along the sideline,” Sell said.
He said he knows the flooding is bad when the water is as high as the street his business sits on.
“You need about 3-4 consecutive days of rain to really get high water down here,” he said.
And although Larum welcomes the moisture, as someone with a home on Little Butte Creek he does have his reservations about the rain.
“It’s a gamble. You never know what you’re going to get,” he said.
