Horse Rescue Caught on Tape in Portland

Firefighters in Portland jumped into action after a horse fell into an old septic tank.

Her owners never forget Roxy’s birthday.

“She turns 34 on tax day,” says her owner.

And they can add one more date to that unforgettable list.

The day they almost lost the quarter horse.

“My husband came in the house we were mowing lawn and he came in the house and saw her struggle with her head from the window, and said watch out we have a problem.”

Video from Portland Fire and Rescue showswhat saved Roxy after she fell into an old septic tank.

Firefighters didn’t have much time but they did have a lot of hose.

They put a strap underneath the front quarters then setup a pulley system with a tree nearby, they had her out in about ten minutes after they arrived.

Roxy was stuck for about a half hour — so she did get banged around a bit.

“We tried to dig, with one leg up and one leg down, she’s got some bruises on her,” said one concerned firefigher.

Portland firefighters went the extra mile here, sticking around afterward to warm Roxy up.
