I-5 accident driver charged with DUII

Medford, Ore. –Update 7/29/14 10:45 AM – Oregon State Police say 45-year old Robert Piland was drunk when his vehicle crossed the median on Interstate 5 at milepost 30, causing a head on collision with a semi truck.

Piland was extricated by responding fire personnel and transported by ambulance to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. After the initial investigation, Piland was cited by OSP for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants.

Original Story – According to Medford Fire and Oregon State Police a semi was traveling South on I-5 and a Suburban going North when the Suburban crossed center median and crashed with semi.

The Suburban driver has been transported to the hospital and was conscious and breathing at the time. Cause of the wreck is currently under investigation. Traffic is slow going South along I-5.
