Jackson County’s top employee is getting a raise, likely bringing Danny Jordan’s salary up above the $200-thousand dollar mark.
“The overall results in this county speak volumes.”
While Josephine and Klamath County are in danger of deep cuts… and Curry County says it will need a sales tax to hang on… Jackson County is in the black.
Commissioner Don Skundrick says County Administrator Danny Jordan is one of the chief reasons for that.
“I think that we’re held in envy by not only the surrounding counties but I think counties throughout the state of Oregon.”
As Federal timber money has dried up, Jackson County is flourishing… purchasing the Federal building for Health Services, and constructing a new Sheriff’s headquarters.
“He really does run the county, people are gonna say whoa, whoa… he’s the Chief Operating Officer, every department answers to him.”
Jordan manages more than 1-thousand full and part-time employees… and received stellar marks in his 2011 performance review just completed by Commissioners.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have Danny Jordan as our County Administrator.”
According to Census data, the median household income in Jackson County is 44-thousand dollars… with Jordan making nearly 5 times that… Commissioners are taking a lot of heat.
“I’ve taken a lot of e-mails about it.”
But Skundrick says Jordan’s more than paying for himself by saving the county money across the board – pointing to an insurance change several years ago… “In the past 4 years we have saved 1.2 million dollars.”… as just one example.
“That was Danny’s idea”.
Jordan is eligible for a raise on July 1st, he is currently paid $190-thousand dollars a year with benefits, plus a $1,000 monthly housing allowance.
