Judge declares second mistrial in Medford murder case

(Updated 1/28 at 1 p.m.)The judge has declared a mistrial in Jose Valencia’s murder trial. This is the second mistrial in the case. Valencia is scheduled to appear in court on February 9th for a pre-trial.

Medford, Ore. — Nearly a year and a half after Maria Rodriguez was murdered the fate begins to unfold for her alleged killer, Jose Valencia.

During day one of the trial jurors heard from the people closest to the investigation. First thing this morning Medford Police Detective Jim Williams took to the stand detailing the crime.

Police said Valencia was waiting for Rodriguez to return to her Table Rock Road apartment on Sunday September 1, 2013.

When she did they said he jumped out from behind some bushes and stabbed her to death.

This afternoon it was the first responders turn. Officers took the jury step by step through their investigation and the discovery of the suspected murder weapon.
