Klamath River Renewal Corporation takes over 4 dams

damsKlamath Falls, Ore. – Four dams on the Klamath River are under new management today.

Paperwork was filed Friday to begin decommissioning of the John C. Boyle dam, Copco 1 and Copco 2, and the Irongate dam.

Pacific Power’s Todd Andres explains:  “PacifiCorp is filing with our regulatory commission, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, to transfer our dam assets over to the Klamath River Restoration Corporation.”

That non-profit corporation will oversee the process of decommissioning the dams.

Pacific Power will continue to operate the dams for now.

If approved by F.E.R.C., dam removal would begin in the year 2020.

It would be the largest dam removal project in U.S. history.
