Three-thousand runners filled up the Jackson County Fairgrounds this morning for some fun and a lot of color at Medford’s first Color Run.
The 5k run is not timed.
The coordinator of the run, Marc Miller says that’s why it’s all about having a good time and bringing people together.
“It’s really friendly to people that maybe don’t want to be timed. People walk it and run it, and its just about having fun and that’s what we’re excited about.”
“Icame because I thought it would be something fun to do with my kids.”
“It’s all about fun and a great way to stay fit. It’s so nice to see all the families.”
And why the name behind the run
Packets of powdered color are thrown at runners throughout the course, creating the end result of a colorful runner.
Miller says the run was so successful and will definitely come back to Medford next year.
For Amanda Shaffer and her family, it was more then just a colorful run.
They ran in memory of their mother and grandmother– K.C. Wilson — the flagger who was killed earlier this month on I-5.
Shaffer says her mom was supposed to participate in today’s run. She says she knows her mom would have been thrilled to be a part of the run.
“It was a bittersweet moment, but we all did it for fun and for her”
Wilson died in Wolf Creek last week where police say a semi-truck side swiped a construction truck.
Wilson was standing near the guard rail where she was struck and killed.
