Medford man arrested after stealing woman’s purse

Medford, Ore. — A man is in the Jackson County Jail tonight after stealing a purse from a woman’s dining room while she was right in her backyard.

Police say a witness saw 27-year-old Ryan Smythers skateboarding on Poplar Drive while rifling through a purse before throwing it aside.

The man called police who found Smythers at North Fred Meyer with a shopping cart full of merchandise and the victim’s credit cards.

Police say Smythers was uncooperative and there was a struggle to get him into custody. The victim didn’t even know the theft occurred.

A good reminder that daytime burglaries happen every day. If you’re home in your backyard with your family you can still lock your front door and make sure your residence is locked up and secure

Smythers is in the Jackson County Jail and is facing charges for burglary, fraudulent use of a credit card, and resisting arrest.

Police say he had arrest warrants out of Missouri for the exact same charges.
