Medford schools now fly POW/MIA flag following legislature

Medford, Ore. – The POW/MIA flag was added to the flagpole at Central Medford High School on Tuesday, following new legislation. House Bill 2892 was passed unanimously in the House, and was signed by Governor Kate Brown in May, making it mandatory for all Oregon public buildings to fly the flag, along the American and Oregon flags.

Hugh Crawford served as a sergeant in the Vietnam War, and headed up the movement to get the legislation approved.

“My company and other companies lost helicopters, went down, we never knew where they’d land,” Crawford said. “I participated in looking for missing crews, never found them, that bothered me a lot.”

Crawford reached out to Oregon veteran support groups, associations, and organizations. In just a couple years, he garnered more than 57,000 Oregon veterans to support the bill.

All public buildings in Oregon will be required to fly the flag beginning on January 1, 2016.
