Medical marijuana dispensary opens in Klamath Falls

Klamath Falls, Ore. — The first medical marijuana dispensary in southern Oregon opened this morning in Klamath Falls.

Edward Medina, Jr. opened his dispensary at nine this morning.

Medina got his state license on Monday…

“Honestly, there was times I presumed that this would never happen.”

While most customers wanted to remain anonymous, medical marijuana card holder Dale Barr is an exception…

“I’ve decided that I’m not going to be discrete anymore – and I’m really happy that this place is opening up.”

Fellow card holder Robert Harris spoke before the Klamath Falls City Council, and the Klamath County Commissioners in support of allowing dispensaries…

“This is real good to our community. It takes the black market out of the picture in some places.”

But not everyone in Klamath County is in favor of dispensaries.

Darlene Cunningham recently testified before the board of commissioners…

“Are they going to be able to get it just like they do tobacco, and liquor Please, I beg of you – do not allow these shops to open.”

The Klamath County Commissioners adopted a year long moratorium on dispensaries last week.

But dispensaries are currently legal in the city of Klamath Falls…which is all that matters to Dale Barr.

“To have a place like this, that i know is safe – that the people here I can trust – I know that they’re following the law.”

Nevertheless, Edward Medina says he’s still nervous about his new business…

“We’re just going to take it one day at a time.”

There weren’t any customers waiting for the dispensary to open at nine this morning…but by 11:AM, about 30 people had come in to visit the sales room.
