Middle school banner promoting gay tolerance is taken down

Beaverton, Ore. — A banner promoting tolerance of gay students was taken down at an Oregon middle school on Wednesday.

A Five Oaks Middle School parent complained about tje signs, saying he felt they were inappropriate, “It says, “Born gay, follow the ray. Born straight, refuse to hate.”

The parent says if the school isn’t open to recognizing other beliefs like Christmas, this should not be allowed either.

Mina Cash-Valdez forms part of the schools’ Gay-Straight Alliance, here’s what she had to say, “I’m sorry, but we’re all about being equal and being supportive of each other and that’s like showing that we don’t support people like that if we take it down.”

A Beaverton School District spokeswoman says safety and tolerance of all children is their top priority.
