Missing snowboarders found alive

Ashland, Ore. — Three missing snowboarders are found alive after being reported missing early this morning.

Jackson County Search & Rescue said 38-year-old Tyler Charest of Talent, 34-year-old Sean Beck and 15-year-old Ayden Beck from Rogue River were last seen around 4:30 p.m. Sunday and were reported missing at 5:15 a.m. Monday morning.

Mt. Ashland officials said the men left the ski patrol boundaries to snowboard on the south side of the mountain, a risky but common thing for experienced snowboarders to do.

Jackson County Sheriff Search and Rescue and Mt. Ashland Ski Patrol along with many volunteers recovered the men below Forest Road 20 just after noon Monday. Mt. Ashland officials say one of the snowboarders was suffering from hypothermia but the other two were said to be in good condition.

Search & Rescue said the men built a snow cave in between two trees and used it’s branches to stay alive.
