Police are currently investigating the death of a single woman in Medford. On Friday afternoon, they found her asphyxiated in her apartment.
Detectives from Medford Police, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Central Point Police and Oregon State Police are still investigating what they’ve termed the suspicious death of 31 year old Maria McDonald.
Neighbors are nervous.
“It’s terrible, she was a really good person,” says neighbor Karma Nitowski.
On Friday, police found 31 year old Maria Victoria McDonald dead in her home on Table Rock Road around 6:30 p.m.
Lt. Mike Budreau tells us, “At this point were still trying to determine what happened.”
Police say the death appears to be suspicious and theyre not ruling out any possibilities.
“We know its an asphyxiation, but we dont know what manner a homicide, suicide, accidental,” Budreau continues.
Neighbors who knew the single mother of four say they cant believe a suicide.
Nitowski tells us, “She wouldnt commit suicide, its not something she would do.”
But they do say her life was rocky as of late.
“A lot going on lately,” continues Nitowski, “Shes got four kids. She was going to get them back, but things didnt work out so well.”
The woman lived with a roommate. The roommate and a male friend,neighbors say, discovered McDonald in the roommates bedroom… which was once the room McDonald’s children lived in. “Her roommate was locked out all day,” says Nitowski, “It took about 8 hours before they got in.”
When police arrived, the male accompanying the roommate was arrested for an unrelated warrant. “I feel like theres a lot going on and a lot of unsolved.”
Its still unclear how long McDonald was in the room, deceased.
and Nitowski says shes still mystified by the death, “Maybe she was a little too friendly with people, maybe that got her into the situation she got in.”
A suspicious situation, which at this point is leaving neighbors in the dark.
