NBC5’s view of the blood moon

Medford, Ore. — An astronomical treat graced the pre-dawn skies this morning. Take a look at this morning’s total lunar eclipse — also known as a blood moon.

This was the view from our parking lot here at NBC5 News. A total lunar eclipse is when the moon passes into the earth’s shadow. It’s called a blood moon because of the reddish color the moon takes on.

If you missed today’s blood moon you’ll have to wait until April 4, 2015 to see the next one.

Today’s eclipse also coincided with October’s full moon which is called Hunter’s Moon.
