New Medford Police Headquarters, Fire Stations on the Table

A project to build new Medford Police Headquarters and three new fire stations are in the works.

The Medford City Council voted on Thursday that the $32 million bond to fund the construction will not be placed in voter’s hands.

A police surcharge will be added to utility fees for the next 30 years, starting at $2 extra per month, eventually raising to just under $5.

Officials say the current Police Headquarters, located in City Hall, would not survive a major earthquake, and a number of fire stations built in the 70’s are not up to code.

No word just yet on when these project will be getting underway.
