Uneven roads.
Cracked roads.
Even some potholes already starting to form.
“It’s not meeting the contract specifications for quality,” says Cory Crebbin of the Public Works Department for the City of Medford.
Sections of roads that were just resurfaced by the contractor Intermountain Slurry Seal of Nevada are going to have to be redone all over again.
Crebbin says “there’s 3 different streets but there’s 19 different sections that have failed quality wise so about 20% of the total project.”
The streets affected are sections of East McAndrews Road from Brookdale Avenue to Hill Crest Road.
West 14th Street from King to Newtown streets.
And East Main Street from Willamette Avenue to Almond.
Hilda Cruz is a hairstylist at the Nook Beauty Salon on Main Street.
She says “parking is hard enough as it is, getting onto Main Street has been difficult.”
She’s been dealing with the construction on Main Street now for a while.
“This just got finished right…Yes and I was saying yeahhhh,” Cruz says.
Her along with all the other businesses on this street and their customers will have to deal with the construction all over again.
Cruz says “it is frustrating, I have been had to completely go around the block onto Riverside to get onto Hawthorne to get onto Main Street.”
But now on the next go around she will be ready.
Cruz says “I think I will be a little more prepared, and know which way to go and what way not to go.”
And hopefully the next go around the construction company will be ready too.
Crebbin says “the contractor has said we have lost our weather window, we will come back next year and redo that 13,000 square yards.”
“People make mistakes, and it is what it is,” says Cruz.
And what it is, is more closed roads and more construction.
The city says Intermountain was going to receive about $250,000, but they will likely hold back about $50,000 until the work can be finished next summer.
