Obama pledges better care for Vets

(NBC News) President Obama unveiled a batch of executive orders Tuesday aimed at correcting what he calls “outrageous and inexcusable” behavior at the Veterans Administration.

He did so before one of the country’s most powerful veterans group, the American Legion.

President Obama promised to do everything he can to fix problems with veteran care.

“What we’ve come to learn is the misconduct we’ve seen at too many facilities with long wait times and denied care, folks cooking the books is outrageous and inexcusable,” Mr. Obama said.

At the Legion’s national convention in Charlotte, the president announced 19 new executive orders targeted primarily at improving access and health care veterans receive from the V-A.

The President’s speech comes ahead of an Inspector General’s report on the V-A scandal set for release Wednesday morning.
