One extricated in single-car rollover on I5 near Ashland

Ashland, Ore. — Oregon State Police are investigating a single car rollover on Interstate Five, that sent two people to the hospital. Just before two Sunday afternoon, OSP responded to I-5 southbound, near Ashland exit 19.

Troopers say the car, carrying two people, left the roadway, and rolled. Fire crews extricated one person, and the other was able to get out of the car on their own.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, but troopers say a few witnesses may have provided a key part.

“The passenger may, we’re not sure yet, we’ve got to do more interviews, but may have pulled the steering wheel on the driver and caused the crash,” Sergeant Jeff Proulx said.

Both the driver and passenger were taken to the hospital. Their conditions aren’t known, but troopers say their injuries aren’t life threatening.

Traffic was closed down to one lane for a brief period while fire crews and police cleared the scene. Both lanes have since reopened.
