One local woman dead, several others injured in Roseburg crash

Roseburg, Ore. — A Grants Pass woman has died, several others injured, following a crash that occurred around 4:30pm Tuesday near Roseburg High School.

According to the Oregon State Police 53 year-old Laura Cortez from Grants Pass died of her injuries after the Subaru she was a passenger in was hit by a Honda SUV driven by 56 year-old Gail Weaver from Myrtle Creek. Weaver was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Officials say there is no evidence of alcohol as a contributing factor.

State Trooper Lieutenant Doug Ladd says the Honda SUV was attempting to exit I-5 at exit 124, hit a curb on the west side of the off ramp and drove through brush, then hit the Subaru seriously injuring the driver, 24-year-old Matthew Cortez and its passenger 23-year-old G. Reinhold Prince, both from Cave Junction.

State Troopers say after hitting the Subaru, the Honda SUV continued and hit a Nissan SUV, driven by 40 year-old Eric Jenkins from Eagle Point. The driver of the Nissan SUV and it’s 39 year-old passenger were not injured.

According to the press release the driver of the Honda SUV was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg for minor injuries.

The press release also say there is no evidence of alcohol as a contributing factor and the driver is cooperating with the investigation.

According to the press release Oregon State Police plans on releasing the names of all involved Wednesday morning.
