Klamath Falls, Ore. – About 100 high school students in Klamath Falls got a graphic life lesson on impaired driving Thursday morning during ‘Operation Prom Night’.
While the drunk driving crash was simulated, Lindsey Adams’ emotions were real “It’s – it’s breathtaking. It’s hard to see – you don’t really think it happens like this.”
In the simulated crash, a drunk teen smashes head-on into a teacher who’s distracted by a cell phone.
3 people are killed. Two others injured – one seriously.
Dan Riblett of Klamath County Fire District #1 said “The objective of Operation Prom Night is to get out the information to all the kids that are out there driving, to not drive impaired.”
The ‘Prom Nights’ were started in Oregon by a Klamath Falls firefighter 10 years ago.
Student Matthew Bruner says the message hits home “Even though it’s a simulation, it still seems like such a catastrophic event.”
Organizers say that if ‘Operation Prom Night’ prevents just one accident, their work has been worth the effort.
