‘Ordinary Heroes’ Stop Robbery, Save a Life

Some ‘ordinary heroes’ helped to save a woman’s life during an attempted armed robbery in Klamath Falls Tuesday…

Susan Kirk says the two people who came into her shop wielding a knife fully intended to kill her…

“They said they wanted to buy something. I went to the back to get the item for them, and when I came back out they grabbed me.”

Cory Bramwell heard her screams for help…

“She was on the ground being attacked, and they both had weapons, and it just wasn’t a good thing.”

Police say a young man and a woman were attacking kid with a knife when Bramwell came to her rescue.

“He hit me from behind with a piece of china.” Recalled Bramwell. “And I turned around…I hit him a couple times, once with his own fist, then once with mine, and he stumbled back and it gave us the time that we needed.”

Off-duty EMT Ed Freitag provided first aid until an ambulance arrived.

Susan Kirk adds that a retired fireman helped to catch the suspects…

“John Eli Black held them until the police got here, they weren’t running loose to hurt somebody else.”

19 year old Dylan Bolte and 18 year old Megan Stewart are both charged with attempted murder, assault, and robbery.

Bramwell took 11 stitches, and Kirk says she’s just happy to be alive…

“I cannot say enough thank-you’s to them. Because I would not be here if it weren’t for every single one of them.”

“I’ve never been one to leave if someone needs help.” Says Bramwell. “And I’d rather go and help someone, than hear that something bad happened.”

Tuesday’s armed robbery attempt may not be so much of a crime story, as it is a story of ordinary heroes – people doing what they simply felt was right.

Suspects Dylan Bolte and Megan Stewart were both arraigned this afternoon, bail for each is set at one million dollars.
