Oregon Department of Forestry expects new fires this weekend

Central Point, Ore. — The Oregon Department of Forestry is gearing up for a busy weekend.

Officials said with the recent thunderstorms in Southern Oregon, new fires are expected to crop up in the next couple of days.

“That’s something people don’t often think of,” Public Information Officer Melissa Cano said. “We’re running and gunning during the actual storms, but a few days later, that’s when all those strikes start to really pop up, they fester, they boil, and we see those fires.”

If you see a fire or a plume of smoke, you’re asked to call 911.
