Over 150 structures burned in Boles Fire near Weed, California

Updated (9/17 2pm)The Boles Fire in Weed has burned 375 acres and is 25% contained. Cal Fire says 150 structures have been destroyed and an evacuation center is at the Mt. Shasta Armory next to Mt. Shasta High School.

US-97 southbound is now open through to Interstate Five at Weed.

Evacuation orders are still in effect for the community of Angel Valley and Hoy Road. Cause of the fire remains under investigation.

CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 4 assumed management responsibilities of the incident at noon onSeptember 16th. Damage Assessment Teams are being assembled and will begin surveying the affectedareas of the fire.

(Update 9/16 1:30pm) The Boles Fire has grown to 375 acres as of Tuesday morning and is 20% contained. 400 homes remain threatened.

According to California Highway Patrol, both Interstate 5 and Highway 97 are back open.

Cal Fire also says three firefighters have been injured; the extent of the injuries are unknown at this time.

The Siskiyou Sheriff’s Office says Hoy Road and the Angel Valley area in Weed remain under a mandatory evacuation. The evacuation order for Lake Shastina and Carrick have been lifted.

Weed, Calif.– 350 acres burned in the small town of Weed, California Monday near Boles Creek Road. The blaze, driven by, wind burned 100 structures including a Catholic church and Mill. 1,500 residents were evacuated from their homes, many of which won’t have one to go back to.

Hundreds of firefighters from Northern California are on scene battling the blaze. Evacuation centers are located at Mt. Shasta High School and the Yreka Fairgrounds.
