Plan to use human waste as fertilizer has been scrapped

Sams Valley, Ore. –The Department of Environmental Quality has confirmed, Clearwater Technologies has pulled their application from a 148 acre parcel that would have been fertilized using class B biosolids, which is essentially partially treated human waste.

Both the Environmental Protection Agency and DEQ backed the plan, however, Brian Thompson, owner of Clearwater Technologies faced strong opposition from community members, many of whom were concerned about the lands proximity to a local school.

The land is now for sale, listed for just under $650,000.
