Redwood Elementary is closed due to possible norovirus outbreak

Grants Pass, Ore. — According to a statement released by the Grants Pass School District 7, Redwood Elementary School will be closed on Friday, May 1st due to a possible norovirus outbreak.

Full statement from GPSD7:

Redwood Elementary School has experienced an inordinately high percentage of students and staff experiencing flu like symptoms over the past few days. Based on the extent and severity of the symptoms, the District has been advised by medical practitioners that there is a strong possibility that it is a result of a norovirus outbreak. In order to protect the health and safety of our students, staffs and their families, Superintendent Higgins has determined that Redwood Elementary School will be closed tomorrow so that appropriate sanitization protocols can be implemented to disinfect the school facility and prevent the virus from spreading.

Students and staff should not come to school tomorrow and will be notified when school will resume. The District is hopeful this situation can be addressed over the next few days and that Redwood will be ready to reopen on Monday, May 4, 2015.

Parents and staff should monitor the District webpage for updates which will also be posted on the Redwood Elementary website and distributed to the local media.”
