Runners hit the pavement for cancer

Grants Pass, Ore. — Josephine County’s Relay For Life got off to a running start Saturday morning.

35 teams camped for 24 hours to walk or run around the track at Grants Pass High School to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Volunteer, Mary Tolle, said it’s an opportunity for community members to celebrate people who battled cancer, remember lost loved ones, and fight back against the disease.

“It gives you a feeling that you’re not alone. We’re all fighting with you. Those of us who aren’t survivors, we’re here to be caregivers,” Tolle said.

Participants raised money and had fun doing it. The theme this year was fairy tale in hopes of people everywhere getting a happy ending with a cure for cancer.
