Aslow Thursday for businesses in downtown Jacksonville.
In what is typically one the busiest times of year for retail shops, sales are a bit slower thanks to last week’s winter storm.
Jason Robison, owner of the Crown Jewel, says foot traffic has been down since the city canceled a number of holiday events because of the weather.
“It put a little damper on it but since then, people are coming to come out. The roads have improved a lot and people love Jacksonville in the winter,” explained Robison.
And other business owners agree.
“I think it’s a shame they had to cancel to events, butI think people who want to shop are still coming” said Kelly Casin, owner of Farmhouse Treasures.
Casin saysthe weather hasn’t really impacted her shop in a negative way.
“I’m still getting phone calls and orders, we’re happy to ship out. Business over all has been good.”
Several other businesses who did not want to speak on camera say, the lack of sales aren’t dampening their spirits. In fact, they say over all it’s been a fantastic year.
But with less than 2 weeks of shopping before christmas day, they are hoping business will get back to normal this weekend.
As part of the Victorian Christmas festivities a number of stores in Jacksonville are donating a portion of their sales to the ACCESS food share until Fecember 20.
