Salvation Army opens cooling station during hot weather

Medford, Ore. –With temperatures soaring into the triple digits the Salvation Army is offering people a way to escape the heat.

A cooling station is open at the Salvation Army on Central Avenue. Folks can beat the heat andre-hydratewith a free bottle of water.

Captain Martin Cooper says he’s noticed more and more people come in especially families in need, “We’re seeing people that we’ve never seen before. We’re seeing people who can fill out the paperwork. So we know they’re not the regular people who come in, they’re new people.”

The Salvation Army is also kicking off it’s annual fan-drive. Captain Coopers says last year, they handed out more than 200 fans to those in need.
