School exclusion day to begin February 18th

Medford, Ore. — Parents and guardians have just two more weeks to give their child’s up-to-date immunization records to schools.

February 18th is school exclusion day, meaning beginning that day, schools must have your child’s records.

The state requires that all children in public and private schools, preschools and certified child care facilities must have up-to-date vaccine records or an exemption.

“Any student who does not have the required vaccinations for their particular age group is then sent a letter prior to the the exclusion date,” said Tania Tong from the Medford School District.

After the letter is sent, students who do not have the proper vaccines will not be allowed back in the classroom.

Last year more than 5,000 kids statewide were kept out of school until their records were turned in. Health officials say no one can be turned away from a local health department because of the inability to pay for required vaccines.
