Search and rescue crews are combing a remote area north of Keno for a missing man from Klamath Falls…that search is focused on an area where the man’s car was found Sunday.
Detective Dennis Yaws of the Oregon State Police notes that 39 year old Robert Lear was reported ‘missing’ by family members on Thursday…
“They were concerned, they hadn’t heard from Robert in several days.”
Lear told family on the 11th that he was planning to move to Seattle. But Detective Yaws didn’t find Lear at his home…
“Looking at his residence, it appeared he had not moved his belongings.”
Lear’s car was found in a remote area off of Clover Creek Road about 8 miles north of Keno on Sunday…and search and rescue crews were called in.
“Spent the majority of yesterday out here in the snow.” Says Detective Yaws. “It was actually snowing pretty heavy yesterday afternoon. We searched until dark.”
Lear is 39 years old. He stands 5 foot 11, and weighs about 190 pounds, with brown eyes, and brown hair. An avid outdoorsman, Lear may have been hiking in the area prior to recent snow storms.
But now, there’s about 20 inches of snow on the ground.
Detective Stephanie Gourley of the Oregon State Police says that search crews got some extra help this morning…
“We have a couple of dogs that are strictly trained for search and rescue, dealing with these kinds of situations.”
But for now, there’s still no sign of Lear…and the search continues.
Police say Lear came to Klamath Falls from the east coast, looking for work. While Lear has some cousins and relatives in the Portland and Seattle areas, most of Lear’s close family is in Delaware and Pennsylvania.
