Marion County, Ohio — (WCMH News) Charges may be filed against five high school seniors who allegedly cut down 23 trees surrounding their school in Marion County, Ohio.
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy discovered that the trees surrounding the River Valley High School campus at 4280 state Route 95 East had been cut down with chainsaws.
The deputy made the discovery Thursday at about 12:45 a.m.
The sheriff’s office said that during the investigation, five students were interviewed about the incident. All five are current River Valley students and attend either River Valley High School or Tri-Rivers (as a River Valley student).
According to River Valley High School Principal Dave Coleman, the students admitted to the incident.
Some of the suspects are 18 years old but at least one of them is 17 years old.
The case will be forwarded to the prosecutors office for review of possible charges against the students.
Coleman said the vandalism was caught on tape, but the video will not be released to the public.
The trees were aged between 1 and 10 years.
School officials said the punishment has not yet been determined.
