Sheriff: Missing Oregon woman’s body found in suitcase in Wisconsin

Wis. —Authorities in Wisconsin have confirmed confirm that a missing Oregon woman is one of the two people whose bodies were found stuffed in suitcases and dumped along a rural highway.

The body has been identified as 19-year-old Jenny Gamez from Cottage Grove.

Identification took a little longer because Gamez was not officially reported missing.

The other victim, Laura Simonson from Minnesota, was identified on June 26th.

Steve Zelich, a 52-year-old security officer is suspected of meeting the two women online, killing them and leaving their bodies in a suitcase that was dropped off in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. They were discovered by highway workers.

Authorities would not comment on what led them to request dental records from Cottage Grove Police for Jenny Gamez.

Gamez went to high school in Oakridge. She was last seen in Cottage Grove in 2012.
